Hello lovely parents, I thought with the cooler weather creeping up on us I’d put together a little list of fun DIY indoor play and family outdoor adventures that keeps our little munchkins entertained and your sanity intact.
Here are some DIY ideas that will turn your home in to pure entertainment-ville…bank this one for winter too!
- Create a sensory bin filled with different shaped pasta for tactile exploration.
- Set up a simple obstacle course using pillows and big cushions.
- Set up a "treasure hunt" with hidden toys or objects around the house.
- Have a dance party with your favourite tunes!
- Make homemade playdough for squishing and moulding.
- Build towers and structures using soft blocks or cardboard boxes.
- Set up a painting station with washable paints and paper.
- Use a blender to make bubbles with water and liquid soap, then pour into a large container for bubble play with some cups for scooping!
- Set up a mini "kitchen" with pots, pans, and wooden spoons for pretend cooking.
- Play with stickers and paper to make colourful creations.
- Have a "dress-up" session with hats, scarves, and costumes.
- Set up a mini "bowling" game using empty plastic bottles and a soft ball.
Here’s a peek into our activities lately.
Bubbles (totally an outdoor thing though!): A current favourite, Scarlett loves to blow bubbles for our dog Arlo to catch!
Playdough.
I’ve recently done two craft boxes of things I keep in the cupboard for those long days when we need an indoor activity. One has paints and playdough (the messier things!), and the other has stickers, colouring pencils, and books. I’ll bring one of these out and set it up on the dining table, and it’s been such a hit.
Painting.
It’s a messier one for sure, but Scarlett absolutely loves it. I have a table mat that I pop on the table to help keep things a little less messy. Pop some older clothes on and let them go for it! I even had fun doing a little myself.
I found this epic paint recipe that’s not as messy as the usual paints around.
Give it a go!
DIY Paint Recipe:
½ cup cornflour
1.5 cups of water
Mix together, then pop in the microwave to thicken like a paste but keep an eye on it (all microwaves are so different, so start with little bursts). Then you can divide it up and pop some food colouring in, and you have a paste-like paint (and it washes out of everything!
Turn those indoor days into memorable moments filled with laughter, creativity, and endless fun.
Now, let's talk about keeping warm and stylish during those chilly days:
-
Lamington Socks are a no brainer in our household. Perfect for snuggling up indoors or layering up for outdoor adventures.
- Silly Silas footed tights are fantastic at keeping those little legs toasty, specially when they're running about. Even though they are cotton they do add a touch of winter charm to any outfit.
- An underrated pram accessory is the snooze shade. This product is SO perfect for the cooler months plus it's great at letting your little ones enjoy and nice peaceful, cosy nap.
Speaking of pram walks, let's turn those chilly outings into fun family orientated adventures. There's nothing quite as entertaining as playing outdoors in the leaves (just watch out for dog poo...)
-
Take your little explorer on a nature walk, pointing out birds, trees, and the beauty of autumn. It's a sensory journey they'll love.
-
Pack a cosy picnic and head to the park for some fresh air and outdoor playtime.
-
Use pram walks as a time for family bonding and conversations. It's a chance to disconnect from screens and connect with each other.
- Start your day with a refreshing pram stroll, embracing the crisp air and peaceful surroundings. It's the perfect way to kickstart the day.
With love,
Grace x
